SEPTEMBER, 2014 NEWS!
Assalamu Alaikum Parents! I am looking forward to teaching Grade 10 History this semester. So far, we have been learning about each other as well as our family histories, our backgrounds and we have just introduced the events that have shaped our Canadian history. As the semester progresses, we will be comparing some of the elements of Canadian history with some aspects of Islamic history as well! In addition, we will be complementing the course material with a couple of field trips that are relevant to our rich Canadian history. As we have many amazing examples of figures who have emerged from our very own rich Islamic history, we like to share and compare their stories with those of our contemporaries. Please review the course information that has been sent home, as well as the late, uniform and homework policy as outlined in the agenda. Our assessments and evaluations include skits, debates, tests, quizzes, a current events scrapbook, movie reviews and other such pieces. Also do refer to the course web site for additional tidbits about grade 10 History. Every day is filled with new lessons about our changing history and the history that we make each and every day! Come join us be a part of that history that we will make from September, 2014 to January 2015, Insha’Allah! Jazak’Allah Khayr! Sr. Arshia Alam, OCT Grade 10 Canadian History CHC2D |
OCTOBER, 2014 NEWS!
Dear Parents/Guardians! Assalamu Alaikum! We hope that you are doing well, Insha'Allah, and that you and your family had an enjoyable Eid! Eid Mubarak! We have made history in our class thus far, while exploring various family histories, writing letters back home as though we lived around the turn of the century, by reliving the roles of famous Canadians and how they contributed to our communities, and by experiencing the trials and tribulations of WWI and the immense changes within Canada shortly thereafter. Please join us as we embark on our further journey of curiosity, inquiry and exploration of Canada's history until recent times. Feel free to browse through our History web site which will demonstrate all that we have going on, Alhamdulillah! We will be having a field trip in December, so stay tuned for that, Insha'Allah! www.ifshistory.weebly.com Bon Voyage! Jazak'Allah Khayr! Arshia Alam, OCT P.S. NOVEMBER, 2014 NEWS!
Assalamu Alaikum Parents! We hope that you are enjoying this wonderful fall weather and the gorgeous colours around us, Subhan'Allah! November just started and already, so much is happening within the 10A History classroom! We just completed a marvelous debate with all the students last week. This week, we are preparing for the midterm this Thursday, which is an in-class essay. The students are writing an essay on a topic related to the topics before, during and after WWI. We had a quiz on the Great Depression and will be starting the unit on World War 2 after the midterm. Students will also be beginning their History Culminating Project which is due towards the end of the semester (before exams). On Thursday, December, 4th, 2014, we are going to Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario, Insha'Allah! Forms will be sent out soon for that. History remedial continues every Wednesday from 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm (unless something arises). Thank you for all your help and support thus far! Jazak'Allah Khayr! Sr. Arshia Alam, OCT |
